RuPaul's Drag Race legends Bob the Drag Queen and Peppermint had a kiki to talk about racism among the show's fandom in an enlightening new video.

The queens are out of drag and speak candidly about their experiences with racism after the show and navigating through the sometimes toxic fandom. Bob has spoken about the topic before but most recently, some fans took issue with Bob appearing on Celebrity Drag Race for the second time.

Over the course of the hour-long chat, the duo takes a deep dive into the fandom's favoritism of white queens on platforms like Instagram and double standards when it comes to favorites—and villains.

"It's implicit bias," Bob points out, comparing Gigi Goode's (now) 578k followers to Jaida Essence Hall's 275k. Both Season 12 girls are slim, smart, hilarious, and fashionable queens who have comparable records so far, but have clearly received different levels of engagement from fans.

Bob and Pep also discuss the bullying of Season 12 queen Brita off social media altogether. Brita has deleted her Twitter and Instagram accounts after receiving an onslaught of hate for her Drag Race run. Bob specifically cited an email to Brita that read, "If I see you on the subway, I won't hesitate to push you in front of a train."

Bob believes it's racialized. All the fandom sees is this big person of color bullying a white queen, in this case Aiden Zane, and "jumps on them." The sentiment aligns with the fandom's harsh judgments on other queens like Roxxxy Andrews, The Vixen, and Phi Phi O'Hara over the years. And oftentimes, white queens who say similar things get away with it without consequence. Take Alyssa Edwards reading Jade Jolie for filth in Season 5 or Morgan McMichaels dragging Mystique in Season 2 for example.

"They love it, they became memes!" Peppermint chimes in. "All people get some hate...people were coming for [Alyssa], but never in the way that it seemed like it was an attempt to push her over the edge."

It's a powerful conversation among the two friends, and things get emotional when they discuss the video-recorded murder of Ahmaud Arbery, a Black Georgia man whose violent death went viral this past week.

With the conclusion of RuPaul's Drag Race fast approaching, many fans have been wondering just how the reality competition show would conduct its usual glitzy finale showdown while we're all in quarantine. Luckily, technology is here to save the day! VH1 has finally revealed the details of the final Season 12 episodes.

On tonight's episode, the Top 5 get cut down to the Top 4. Next Friday, the reunion will air. In a statement, VH1 says all the queens (minus disqualified contestant Sherry Pie) are throwing a virtual slumber party hosted by RuPaul! The kiki will dive into all the drama of this season, life in quarantine, fan questions, and spill the tea on shady moments and shocking eliminations.

The finale is still set for Friday, May 29. VH1's statement reveals it "was shot with RuPaul and the cast virtually, using innovative technology that highlights the creativity of the queens." The top queens will compete in a "revolutionary lip-sync battle for the crown."

How this is going to work, we have no idea...

Season 11 winner Yvie Oddly will help crown the season 12 winner, Nina West will pass on the Miss Congeniality crown, and they finale promises special celebrity appearances as well. It seems that one of their sponsors, Pantene, also has a surprise in store for all the queens.

RuPaul's Drag Race airs Fridays on VH1 at 8pm ET/PT.

This article was amended after VH1 requested a redaction.

It's All Star season, and the stakes are higher than they've ever been before! Who will be the next queen inducted into the Drag Race Hall of Fame?

In the brand new RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 5 trailer, Alexis Mateo, Blair St. Clair, Derrick Barry, India Ferrah, Jujubee, Mariah Paris Balenciaga, Mayhem Miller, Miz Cracker, Ongina, and Shea Couleé prepare for battle, we meet some superstar guest judges, and Ru shares the gag of the season!

"The traditional elimination rules for All Stars have been shaken up," VH1 said in a statement. "At the end of each episode, RuPaul will name one top all star of the week. That queen will lip sync for her legacy against a mysterious lip sync assassin, chosen from the most iconic performers in Drag Race herstory. If the top all star of the week wins the lip sync, she wins a $10,000 tip and the power to eliminate the bottom queen of her choice.  If the lip sync assassin wins, a bottom queen selected from a secret group vote gets the chop, and the $10,000 rolls over until a top all star wins."

In the words of Gia Gunn, it's about to get gaggy!

Grammy Award-winning pop star Ricky Martin kicks off the season premiere, and we can wait to live la vida loca! Tessa Thompson, Madison Beer, Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Nicole Byer, Sarah Hyland, Tommy Dorfman, Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman, Bebe Rexha, Jane Krakowski, Sam Richardson and Todrick Hall also make their mark on this season's stage.

And in preparation for All Stars 5, you can catch every RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars episode in Logo's marathon beginning Saturday, May 30 at 6am through Sunday, May 31 at 11pm.

RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 5 premieres Friday, June 5 at 8pm on VH1! Watch the trailer below!

Since its first season, RuPaul's Drag Race has given viewers so many extraordinary lip-sync performances that mainstream America has since tried to co-opt through lip-sync shows of their own (which are, of course, not nearly as good). But what's new about that? Mainstream America has always been late.

Culture aside, what makes the lip-sync performance so captivating is that Drag Race producers pick songs that are powerful (for lack of a better word). They don't just go around picking songs that are popular. With that being said, there are certain songs that viewers have wished—and keep wishing—would come up in a Lip Sync For Your Life. I know I have!

Here's a list of songs that we absolutely would love and NEED to see performed on RuPaul's Drag Race in the future!

1) Sia, "Chandelier"

Can you imagine how intense this lip sync could get? Contestants would just have to be careful not to mimic the music video because people would not be impressed.

2) Avril Lavigne, "Girlfriend"

Avril has yet to have a song on RPDR, so maybe now is the time?

3) Hi Fashion, "Amazing"

Only the fiercest divas could pull this off.

4) Lady Gaga, "Judas"

Gaga lip syncs almost always turn the party up!

5) Taylor Swift, "Blank Space"

The producers would have to get through Taylor's legal team first, so this one might never be possible.

6) Chelsea Lankes, "Bullet"

This song may not be as popular as some of the others on this list, but has everything a great lip sync song needs.

7) Selena, "Dreaming of You"

To win this lip sync, queens would have to capture the feel and match the sound as closely as possible. No splits or death drops for this one. Also, isn't a Selena-focused episode of RPDR overdue??

8) Grimes, "Flesh Without Blood"

This is a bit alternative for RPDR, but a lip sync to this would no doubt be one of the best ever! Although, it'd be admittedly hard to pin down a song like this.

9) Lady Gaga, "Donatella"

Seriously, I will die if they ever used this on the show. Can you even imagine how amazing a lip sync to this song could be?

10) Miranda Lambert, "Gunpowder & Lead"

It's been a while since we've had a country song on Drag Race.

11) Rita Ora, "I Will Never Let You Down"

This high energy song would push the queens to work every inch of the stage.

12) Beyoncé, "If I Were a Boy"

I'd be happy with ANY Beyoncé song at this point.

13) Dolly Parton, "Jolene"

THIS is a country classic. Much like Latrice's "Natural Woman" lip sync, this is a song that can only be successfully performed if people channel the emotion.

14) Marina and the Diamonds, "Oh No!"

This song screams RuPaul's Drag Race lip sync.

15) Paramore, "Misery Business"

Who wouldn't love to see the queens take on this popular throwback?

What songs have you been waiting for someone to lip sync to on Drag Race? Let us know in the comments and on Twitter!

RuPaul's Drag Race stars Shangela, Eureka O'Hara, and Bob the Drag Queen are changing the world one small town at a time on HBO's gritty makeover reality series We're Here

The queens wield the power of drag to makeover people, minds, and hearts with a one night only specialty show starring members of the local community, LGBTQ+ folks, as well as allies—on stage together.

In PRIDE's chat with the queens, alongside show creators Johnnie Ingram and Steve Warren, the transformative powers of drag are on full display.

The premise of the show "really resonated big to" Shangela, she says, "because I kept thinking, 'Wow, if I would've had this when I was growing up in my small town, what an impact it would've had on me.'"

Taking the full spectacle of drag to these small towns uplifts the LGBTQ+ community there who might feel alone or misunderstood. At the end of the day, it showcases the power of representation.

Bob relates it to watching Bebe Zahara Benet win her Drag Race crown on national television. "Seeing someone on RuPaul's Drag Race being celebrated for everything that I had been told was bad about me (she's lack, she's queer, she's fem, she's a drag queen) and people on TV were giving her accolades, telling her she's gorgeous, she was brilliant," she reflects. "By finding the drag community, I found a way to use everything that was ever used against me to be a benefit to me. Every detriment had become an attribute."

Of course, being an unscripted series exploring small towns, everything wasn't just rainbows and butterflies. Episode one catches a moment after the queens leave a store and an angry patron calls them "freaks" and promises never to return. And in Branson, Missouri, a store owner calls the cops on the queens.

"It was a shock, but it was also a reminder that we still have a lot of work to do in regards to pushing ourselves farther on the spectrum of acceptance," Shangela reflects. "We get celebrated so much by fans and different people that we meet that going into these spaces, these conservative towns, was truly a sobering reality. It brought us back to what it's like for a lot of LGBTQ people on a daily basis."

The power of the series lies in queer resilience. These towns aren't the Drag Race workroom, and many LGBTQ+ people's identities aren't celebrated or even acknowledged. But to find your own joy, strength, and pride within yourself, in spite of the world's shortcomings, is a superpower.

Watching Bob, Eureka, and Shangela share their superpowers with the people in these communities is a cathartic experience, and a moving lesson in empathy and human connection, something many of us are lacking while isolating in our homes across the world. And while they might not have been able to get every townsperson on board with their mission, Warren says the trying is a step in the right direction. "Even though we haven't necessarily won their hearts over, we're engaging in showing a face and being present and being visible."

The pandemic derailed the original plans for tonight's finale, so instead the queens will dig deep into their own stories. Eureka teases that they'll also get to showcase some of the leaders of the queer communities they visited that they didn't get to show previously.

"It's a great way to show people that we're getting through it together," Eureka says, calling it a "powerful shared experience."

The season finale of We're Hereairs tonight at 6pm ET/9pm PT on HBO!

The highly-anticipated fifth season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars finally premieres tonight, and if you're feeling conflicted about the excitement for the show, especially in these very serious, uncertain, and trying times, then you're not alone—even the stars of the show are having complicated feelings about it. But if the powerful words from queens like Shea Coulée and Mayhem Miller are anything to go by, then maybe All Stars 5 is exactly the kind of thing we need right now.

In a statement written by season 9 finalist and returning AS5 queen, Shea Coulée talks about how the show has given her a renewed sense of hope and that she wants to use the show as a means to amplify Black voices, especially since so many amazing people of color put so much hard work into it.

"If there was one thing that I wish the fandom truly had the opportunity to see, it would be the AMAZING family/community that World of Wonder built to help create the show," she said. "Shout out to all of the amazing women (who were majority Black and Brown) talent managers that literally took care of us as if we were their own flesh and blood."

Shea continued:

"I say all of this to express that my experience on AS5 was nothing short of pure MAGIC. It challenged me, inspired me, renewed my love of drag in a deep and meaningful way, but most of all it gave me HOPE. Hope that I feel so many of us need right now."

Season 10 contestant and Shea's All Stars 5 co-star Mayhem Miller shared similar sentiments in a statement on her Instagram account, where she talked about how proud she is of all of the work that went into the new season of the reality drag competition.

"My experience took me on a journey of personal growth and the shared experiences with the cast I will always remember," Mayhem said. "As a Black, queer artist I feel our voices need to be amplified. Our stories need to be told. Especially right now. More than ever."

RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 5premieres tonight at 8pm on VH1.

It's Derrick Barry, bitch.

The RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 5 contestant is the subject of a new parody music video from Willam, another Drag Race alumnus known for "Boy Is a Bottom" and other queer spoofs.

Barry is famous for her Britney Spears impersonations—and her throuple relationship—and both of these topics are skewered in "Derrick."

Sung to the tune of "...Baby One More Time," as well as a medley of others Spears hits like "Toxic" and "Stronger," the spoof is both a burn and a celebration of Barry, who gamely appears in the video along with her partners Nebraska Thunderfuck and Nick San Pedro. Courtney Act also makes a cameo.

"STOP...doing impressions, girl," Willam sings at one point—a reference to Barry's talent-show performance on the first episode of All Stars that flopped with the judges.

In the YouTube caption, Willam assured viewers that the majority of the scenes were shot before the stay-at-home orders. The drag performer also urged fans of the video to donate to Black Lives Matter.

If you're anything like us, then you've been patiently waiting for some kind of follow-up ever since the first eight episodes of the first season of RuPaul's Drag Race UK aired. With the current ongoing global health crisis putting literally all of our favorite TV and movie productions on hold, Drag Race UK season 2 was also put on the backburner for an unannounced later time...

But thanks to queen Michelle Visage, we got some much-needed confirmation that the European version of our fave drag reality competition series would be returning for a second round.

"I want people to know, rest assured, there will be your Season 2 of Drag Race UK," the longtime Drag Race franchise judge told host Lorraine Kelly during a recent virtual appearance on Good Morning Britain. "We’ve got everything ready, we’re just waiting for this ban to lift. Try to stop me."

And Michelle isn't the only person spilling some Drag Race UK tea! Season 1 judge Alan Carr will also be returning, and in a recent interview with the Radio Times, the comedian said he is set to film and is super excited for it.

"I’m filming but I don’t know who I’m on with, it’s so secretive," he dished. "They’ve already filmed the first one. I can’t wait. I’m going to be like that kid in that Alton Towers advert saying, 'One more sleep!'"

So it may be a while until we see the UK version of Drag Race back on our screens, but when we do eventually get season 2, it will definitely have been worth the wait!

Maybe Andrew Garfield can come back and get on all fours again like he did last time???? (A girl can dream!)

The first season of Drag Race UK is available to stream on VH1!

The All Stars 5 queen talks pole-dancing, Pride, and her Shea Coul-Alé from Goose Island Beer Co.

Today is Shea Couleé's mom's birthday. As we chat, she mentions the deep clean she's currently in the midst of at her Chicago home in preparation for her mother's visit.

"It's got to be spick and span," Couleé laughs. "She's got to be able to eat off my floors."

There's a lot going on for the RuPaul's Drag Race star. She returned to the competition for All Stars 5 last week and announced a partnership with Goose Island Brewery Co., where they've crafted a special Pride-themed beer in the star's namesake.

PRIDE had a chat with Couleé about the Shea Coul-Alé, giving back to the transgender community, pole-dancing, blocking people on Instagram, and what she wants to do with the $100,000 when she wins should she win.

shea_picnic_1_1.jpg

PRIDE: The beer is called Shea Coul-Alé. Did you come up with the name?

Shea Couleé: That was actually my boyfriend and partner, Dan, who came up with Shea Coul-Alé. He's just such a branding little genius. I remember even when I came up with the name Shea Couleé, I thought this would be great for marketing purposes because it'll rhyme with so many things.

How did you get involved with Goose Island Brewery Co.?

The introduction was made through Do312. They were doing their "Drag A Beer" project and really trying to bring together two completely different communities; beer and drag queens. Normally when you think of drag queens, you don't immediately think of beer, you think of Manhattans and Cosmos and Vodka Sodas.

I was actually really intrigued when they brought it to me because I myself am not a really big beer drinker, but I thought this would be a really great opportunity to go into uncharted territory.

Did you curate the Dry-Hopped Wheat Ale flavor?

They were already producing this seasonal beer, but I have had the opportunity to taste it. It is really quite lovely. I'm so happy. It's not nice and light, it's got a nice lemony quality to it but it's also full-bodied enough for people who are really avid beer drinkers. It's pleasing to a lot of different palates and I'm really pleased with what we put out.

The profits from the beer are doing to TransTech Social Enterprises, an organization dedicated to giving trans folks the vocational training and job placement they need to get a headstart in the workforce. Why did you choose this charity?

I picked TransTech Social Enterprises because I've been friends with Angelica Ross for a long time. She used to live here in Chicago. When I was coming up as a young, baby queen, I was always so moved by her activism and her engagement with the community in the way that she's always actively working on ways to give back and uplift and amplify trans women.

When we started talking about having there being a charitable aspect to the beer, TransTech is honestly the first thing I thought of. When I think about charity and I think about building community, it's really about reaching out to members of our community that are most vulnerable. Having the opportunity to give trans people vocational training, helping them work on their resumes to get better job placements, and overcome a lot of discrimination that they face when trying to get jobs. I think that really is a great opportunity to give back in a really meaningful way.

With Pride events canceled, what are you doing in your own life to celebrate Pride?

You know what, Pride is every day I wake up and take a breath. [laughs] I live every day full of Pride.

For the month of June, everyone's turning up for the sake of the movement. I'm going to be cooking from home, spending time with my chosen family and my nuclear family, and just focusing on community and investing in each other. That's what I really want to think about this Pride and moving forward, how can I invest more in my own community. When I do that, it still goes back and uplifts me at the same time. That's one of my biggest focuses this Pride season.

How can we, as fans, support our favorite drag queens?

Buy our merch. That's always the biggest way to support our drag queens. I currently just released a limited edition t-shirt that was inspired by my entrance outfit and 50 percent of the proceeds are going to the Breonna Taylor family fund to help get justice for Breonna Taylor and get the men responsible for taking her life charged for the crimes that they committed.

Not only can you help us by buying our merch, give us a follow, subscribe to us on YouTube. Those are ways that we monetize. And by being visible, that helps us to further amplify our causes and to be able to grow our brands.

I have to ask about RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 5. In last week's premiere, you were coming for FKA Twigs' gig with that pole dance. Do you still practice?

Due to COVID, I haven't been able to get back into the studio. The house that I live in, every single room has a ceiling fan so there's nowhere for me to install it at home so I am just waiting for the moment I can go back in there with my instructor, Keith, because he is amazing.

Do expect to see some more stunts from your girl coming out in the future.

During Untucked, you mentioned that you live in the "Petty Palace," so my question for you is, how many people have you blocked on Instagram?

I would say maybe around 100?

My thing is you really got to get to me to get me to block you. People sometimes want to get in the comments for clout. When you block them, the first thing they do is screenshot it and go to someone else's mentions and be like, "Ugh, the blocked me!"

What I do is mute them because you're no longer part of the conversation and I don't see you. It's invalidating to them. I pay them no mind. You know when a child is misbehaving and you just have to be like, "Oh you're trying to get my attention and I'm not gonna validate you with that."

Last question, what are you going to do with the prize money when you win All Stars 5?

Speak it into existence! Manifest that! Hallelujah! [laughs]

My dream would be to invest in buying a home. That's the realest way to actually build wealth in this country. Black people don't own property at higher rates than our other counterparts. I would love to be able to say, "I'm no longer renting. This right here is mine." Have a big garden and just like, find a home, that would be really really great. I would treat myself by doing that.

The Shea Coul-Alé is available for delivery and to-go options from Clybourn BrewhouseFulton TaproomPhilly Brewhouse, and Replay in Andersonville.

RuPaul's Drag Race legends Shangela, Trinity the Tuck, Eureka O’Hara, Latrice Royale, Nina West, and Kennedy Davenport have combined forces with Broadway star Marisha Wallace to bless us with an uplifting lip-sync to "Tomorrow" from the classic musical Annie.

Featuring Wallace's jaw-dropping vocals, the video shows the queens putting every ounce of emotion they've got into the powerful lip-sync performance.

"This song has always been one I listened to, to get me through the tough times and my team came to me with an idea to amplify the message," said Wallace in a statement. "We reached out to Latrice Royale and she immediately had an all-star line-up to help us make this feel-good video to remind everyone that even though we are going through so much– we will indeed make it out on the other end."

100 percent of proceeds from the track are going to Broadway Cares and MAD Trust to assist Broadway actors and singers whose work has been affected by the pandemic. It was produced by Happiest Hour Studios, the creative minds behind the recent viral collabs between Idina Menzel and Megan Hilty, and Jeremy Jordan and Katharine McPhee.

According to the press release, Marisha and Latrice are also teaming up on Instagram Live to "have a conversation about the racial injustice, the meaning behind this song/collaboration, and might even perform a song or two—all while raising money for various Black LGBTQ+ organizations in support of the Black Lives Matter movement and Pride Month."

Late last month, drag legend Gia Gunn received a ton of online backlash after a video of her calling the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic a "hoax" made its rounds on the internet. (Yes, the video is as cringe-y and disappointing as it sounds...)

During an Instagram Live, the Season 6 and All Stars 4 alum was complaining about having to wear face masks in public and echoed a lot of far-right sentiments and conspiracies surrounding the coronavirus, saying "I honestly think this whole COVID-19 thing is a hoax. I think everybody who is, you know, taking precautions is cute and it’s definitely the thing to do, but I also think a lot of people are brainwashed."

After fierce and rightful criticism from many fans and viewers from all over the world, Gia is now taking to YouTube to issue a formal apology for her words.

"I realized that this was completely wrong of me and very insensitive, especially to the families and people who have experienced tremendous amounts of loss and/or struggle due to this terrible virus," Gia said apologizing. For real-life context, COVID-19 has taken hundreds of thousands of lives just in the United States alone, and the worldwide death toll is estimated to be in upwards of 500,000+ deaths at the time of writing.

"This virus has not gone anywhere," Gia said. "It’s up to us to look out for one another and stop the spread of this terrible, terrible virus."

She continued:

"I’ve taken this weekend and some time to sit with the consequences of my actions but most importantly to think and to wrap my head around this whole thing, but most importantly share with you guys what I have learned. As my parents always told me, it’s okay to make mistakes, just as long as you walk away having learned something."

Who was lying? Alexis or India?

After last week's explosive episode of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 5, that's the question on everyone's lips.

When it was revealed that Shea Couleé was the winner of last week's Snatch Game challenge and the remaining queens would vote on who amongst them would be sent home, India Ferrah decided that was the moment to unload a bombshell of a secret. She pulls Shea aside and tells her that earlier in the season when Shea was in the bottom, Alexis tried to convince India to pick her lipstick to go home, essentially campaigning for her elimination. The reveal quickly went public and put all the queens at odds with each other—and suddenly no one seemed safe.

Alexis vehemently denied the claim while India rattled off platitudes about the truth setting people free, but what is the truth?

The Top 5 girls are still as lost as ever as they commiserate in the werkroom in this week's sneak peek of episode 6. "I got really close to picking up your lipstick," Shea tells Alexis.

"It hurts because [India] was my friend," cries Alexis, moments before they reveal the lipsticks from the elimination.

Watch the emotional moments after India's elimination below.

The congresswoman has some thoughts on this competitive AF season of Drag Race All Stars!

We know where New York congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez stands on many important political issues, like healthcare and climate change, but where does she stand on this competitive AF season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars?

That's the question writer Evan Ross Katz helped get the answer to when he slid into the DMs of AOC (who previously guest judged on the 12th season of Drag Race earlier this year) and asked who she was rooting for this season.

"Shea and Jujubee," AOC told Katz via Instagram.

"Shea has just come in on another level fashion-wise and her performances have been really strong," she explained about why she stans Shea. "She came in as one of the most prepared, and with a sky-high taste level. That Nubian runway with the stone bodysuit? I was finished."

Sharing her thoughts on Drag Race veteran Jujubee, AOC continued:

"Jujubee has cemented herself as one of the most charismatic, funny queens in RPDR history. You know a queen is on another level charismatically when she comes on the show for the 3rd time and STILL hasn't learned to sew yet for some reason we're not mad at all. Every time she is on screen you just want to see and hear more of her. True sign of an entertainer."

Taste!!

Ever since the premiere of All Stars 5 back in June, Shea and Jujubee have been frontrunners to join the illustrious Drag Race Hall of Fame, and now that both are in the top 4, the competition is getting even tighter and more competitive! With only a few episodes left in the competition, we'll just have to wait and see who ends up getting the crown!

All Stars 5 airs Friday nights on VH1!

Four years after his iconic RuPaul's Drag Race season 8 win, Bob the Drag Queen is still one of the fandom's most well-known, beloved, and downright hilarious queens. Fresh off of his co-hosting gig on HBO Max's groundbreaking, gritty reality makeover series We're Here (which recently got renewed for a second season!) and with a comedy special available for streaming, photographer and PRIDE's20 Queer Q's interviewer Joe Rodriguez sat down for a conversation with the legendary comedian and drag performer to talk everything from comedy inspiration to Pride, to first kisses and what the future holds for his career!

Where do you pull comedic inspiration from?

I hate to sound basic, but from life in general. My latest special, Bob the Drag Queen: Live at Caroline’s, a lot of it is from my mom. A lot of my friends find my mom really funny, but because I’ve known her for 34 years, I find this normal behavior. She is funny, but my friends find her hilarious and I realized she does funny stuff and I thought about how we grew up, how she reacted to things, and how much that shaped my life in a funny way.

Did you always know you wanted to do comedy growing up?

No, I went through a lot of career choices growing up. I wanted to be a candy maker, an accountant. I remember at one point I wanted to be Martin Luther King Jr. and get in front of a room and say motivational things. I wanted to be a comedian in my second or third year of college. I remember the first time someone once told me I was the funniest person they knew was some high school friends, and that was the first time it clicked for me.

What’s the first movie or show that comes to mind that you would say inspired your comedy?

Sister Act is one of my favorite comedic movies. I also really love School of Rock. I feel like no one is out there talking about how funny it is. I’m a big Jack Black fan which is not something you see a lot in the queer space. Being a Jack Black fan in the queer world is a lonely island but if you look at his work, I think most people would agree it’s pretty solid.

What’s the scariest thing about writing and performing comedy?

I don’t really get afraid with writing. I’m pretty good at gauging whether something is going to land and or not. I have no fear of failing. I’m completely comfortable failing really loud and in front of a lot of people. I think my past has shown me that you can fail and can still do well. That failure doesn’t have to define your career or even that show. If you had a joke not land, that doesn’t mean your show wasn’t funny, it means your joke wasn’t funny.

What is some advice you would give to people who want to get to the same level of unabashed confidence that you have?

I think it’s just having self-awareness that I’m not going to nail it every time and that has really helped me. My greatest asset is that I’m not a perfectionist. If I was a perfectionist, I would never get anything done because rarely am I perfect, if never. There’s a lot of things that I do and I’m comfortable learning in the public eye which goes along with my politics, makeup, clothing, everything.

Comedically, what’s next for you?

Hopefully, I would love Netflix or HBO to buy my next special so they can look even nicer. I’m really excited for the production value to match the value of my comedy, which I think is pretty high.

Invite two people to invite to dinner, who do you invite?

I’d probably invite my two partners to dinner

Who is someone that everyone should be following or listening to lately?

Everyone should go listen to Shea Diamond. She’s a singer, she’s absolutely amazing, and I’m really into her work.

What does Pride mean to you in your own words?

Pride is just a sense of love in your queerness. It's the time of year where people can live out loud because there are people who don’t get that year-round.

If people wanted to become an activist, what would be a good starting point for them?

If there’s a queer center in your town you can go there. It’s also 2020 and everything is on the internet. You can learn to bake a wedding cake from scratch on the internet, so you can certainly learn how to get involved in activism.

Do you think your drag has developed since being on Drag Race?

Yeah, I’ve learned a lot about makeup, costuming, and my budget and resources have grown. Being touted as one of the best drag queens, for me, I have to try to uphold that and I don’t want to stop evolving, I don’t want to plateau.

Tell me the story about the first Pride you attended?

I was in high school, my mom took me to Atlanta Pride in Piedmont Park, and this was when Pride was in June. I was immersed in this world of seeing queers and I hadn’t been out yet. I think my mom had an inkling, but she took me out and I remember being like, "This is amazing!" It was odd to not feel singled out for my queerness but to feel at one with other people and their queerness. Also, it’s Atlanta Pride. Sometimes I have this thing where I’m the only Black or queer person here, but because it was Atlanta Pride, I felt so welcomed.

What is in your opinion, the quintessential Pride song?

"Deeper Love" by Aretha Franklin.

What do you hope Pride will look like in five years?

I love that Pride is evolving. I know there’s a big group of people who want things to go back to the way they were. To quote Billy Joel, "The good old days weren’t always that good and tomorrow’s not as bad as it seems."

So the fact that we’re stirring things up for things to be the way they used to be to me, sounds a little MAGA quite frankly. A lot of people are into restoring the old Pride, but I’m also wondering how did Black queers feel at the old Pride? If you’re gonna try to restore Pride to the way it used to be, how do you think Black queers felt showing up at the old Pride?

Where do you hope to be in five years?

Hopefully, I’m trying to move this fall and try to buy a house which feels kind of insane. Hopefully career-wise, I’ve been getting into producing. Living my life as someone who’s able to produce content for other people, especially Black queer people, for people who are like me and have a voice and story similar to mine, I hope to be doing more producing on that side.

Describe this year so far in 5 words.

Black History Year.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

This is going to sound like a silly piece of advice, but the best advice I ever received was,"When someone gives you advice, consider the source." You need to ask yourself, "Am I cool with being like this person who is giving me this advice?" So consider the source.

How would you like to be remembered?

I did have a fear when I was really young of basically the movie Coco. Basically when everyone who knew you fades away, then you start to fade away too. So I do love the idea of honoring the legacy of the people who came before me, but also finding oneness and knowing that if someone like me is existing, then I am existing at the same time. It doesn’t have to be remembering Bob the Drag Queen, but there are tons of Bob the Drag Queens out there. Everyone remembers Marsha P. Johnson, but think about all the Marsha P Johnson’s whose names we never knew, but because Marsha P. lives on, so do they.

Are you overwhelmed with so much Drag Race six months out of the year and I think, "Is this what football fans go through?"

I will say I get really emotionally invested in Drag Race and so when I get really angry or excited, I think to myself, "Is this what it feels like to be a straight guy watching football?" because I get stressed out, but I love it so so much.

Who are current queens that inspire you and future queens that you would love to see flourish?

Current queens that inspire me are Jackie Beat, Monét X Change, Shea Couleé, Miz Cracker. Those are queens I really respect. I don’t really have my finger on the pulse to quantify who’s the next big thing. Bambi Couleé, Peaches Christ, Puretta, Pixie Aventura, I could name these queens all day.

What do you feel most confident about?

That I’m really funny.

What do you feel most insecure about?

My belly. I hate it.

What's a quality you find sexy?

Confidence. That’s such a basic bitch answer, but it’s also very real.

Night in or night out?

Night in.

What value or quality has your queerness given you?

A sense of community, specifically my Black queerness.

Sweet or salty?

Salty.

Talk about your first queer kiss.

I was in college, and it was a sloppy, drunken night with a guy from the theatre department. It wasn’t necessarily passionate or romantic, but it was memorable because it was the first one. It felt like a sigh of relief, like this is what I’ve been waiting for even though in hindsight, it was a particularly underwhelming kiss, there was still this moment where I asked myself, "Is this what it’s like to be yourself?"

Where do you hope to see queer media in the next couple of years?

I would love for Black queer artists like myself to feel comfortable in spaces not surrounded by other non-Black queer people.

Do you think it’s hard to make queer friends?

Not me. I don’t know any straight people.

Who is someone you consider to be a queer icon?

Wanda Sykes.

Use four words to describe your coming out experience.

"Mom, I’m gay! Duh!"

If you could shadow anyone for a day who would it be?

Lee Daniels.

Anything you’re looking forward to?

I’m really happy with the progress and shifting of power. There is no equality without loss of power. Someone has to lose some power for someone else to gain some. It’s going to be uncomfortable, there will be growing pains, but we’ll all come out on the other side stronger as a nation because of it.

Pretty soon the Drag Race fandom will be taking over the entire world!

It looks like the Drag Race fandom's hope and dreams for worldwide domination and fabulosity is one-step closer to becoming a reality, because the long-running drag reality competition is getting yet another international franchise!

Following last Friday's epic conclusion to All Stars 5, Mama Ru herself took to the official World of Wonder Twitter account to announce that the Netherlands is the next country that will be getting its very own Drag Race series!

"Hello HolIand, it's RuPaul, and I am proud to announce that my beloved Drag Race is coming to you," Ru said in the video announcement for Drag Race Holland. "And with a brand new host!"

Though details are still scarce (we don't even know who will be hosting the surely legendary Dutch edition of Drag Race or when it will even premiere), World of Wonder did RuVeal that U.S. fans will definitely be able to stream all the shenanigans alongside our Netherlands sisters on their streaming service, WOW Presents Plus, so we won't be missing out!

In the past few years, Drag Race has had quite the international expansion. Drag Race Thailand first premiered back in 2018 and already has two successful seasons under its belt. Drag Race UKmade waves across the pond for all of its hilarious antics on BBC Three, and Canada's Drag Race is currently airing its very first season with season 11 finalist Brook Lynn Hytes as a judge.

Drag taking over the world??? We love to see it!

As we plunge into having more RuPaul's Drag Race on television than any year before—we've counted up nine iterations of the show so far—the series is also uploading past seasons that haven't been available for streaming in the US. And while many may have been streaming from other sites like Hulu and Amazon Prime Video, the new deal includes additional seasons.

You may already know but Prime Video has had the first five seasons of the show for some time. Last year, Hulu also announced that it was getting the first six seasons of the show, two seasons of All Stars, and quite a number of seasons from Untucked. In addition, quite the library of clips from the show are available on YouTube. Now, CBS All Access is stepping into the fray with the first 10 seasons of Drag Race, and three of All Stars. They have not uploaded Untucked.

The episodes come as a result of a plan to turn All Access into a "super-service." Alongside Drag Race, the service will be receiving SpongeBob SquarePants, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Laguna Beach, and more.

For those hoping to stream later episodes, they can be accessed on VH1's site. The expectation is that once the seasons are no longer available on VH1, they will become available on CBS All Access. (It's kind of funny how no one has picked up Drag U, don't you think?!)

In case you didn't already know, RuPaul's Drag Race is slowly but surely taking the world by storm!

The long-running, Emmy-winning reality competition series has more spin-offs that we can currently count and keep up with right now (more content is a good problem to have!), and with the recent announcement of the latest international franchiseDrag Race Holland—a new member is also joining the fam!

Earlier today, World of Wonder made the announcement on social media that Fred van Leer will be officially taking helm of the Netherlands' version of Drag Race.

"Fred, listen up girl, I've got a serious question for you," Mama Ru herself asks van Leer in a video message posted to Twitter. "Would you like to host Drag Race Holland?"

Fred's answer? An ecstatic, "HELL YES!"

"I still can’t believe I’ll host Drag Race Holland with the blessing of RuPaul! What a dream!" van Leer said in a statement according to Entertainment Weekly. "This program is everything I believe in and stand for! It’s all about charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent, and I can’t wait to see all the fantastic creations of the queens on the runway, the lip-syncs, and all the challenges we created. A first message to our queens: You’d better work, bitch! Good luck and don’t f--- it up!"

Before his Drag Race hosting duties, van Leer was known mostly as a celebrity stylist and a judge/host of Holland's Next Top Model, so he's definitely got the chops to help crown the first-ever Dutch Drag Superstar!

In the past few years, Drag Race has had quite the international expansion. Drag Race Thailand first captivated audiences in 2018 and already has two successful seasons in the bagDrag Race UK made waves across the pond for all of its hilarious (Andrew Garfield-filled) antics on BBC Three, and Canada's Drag Race is currently airing its very first season with season 11 finalist Brook Lynn Hytes as a judge.

Drag Race becoming a worldwide phenomenon?!

Drag Race Holland premieres on Friday, September 18 on Videoland in the Netherlands and on WOW Presents Plus for stateside fans!
